This is going to sound weird...

This is a topic I don’t know how to introduce without sounding a bit creepy... But... I love men. Aren’t they awesome? I mean, I’m not going around ogling them all the time, and I’m not dripping with lust whenever a man comes around... but I do love them.

My favorite men
To be clear, I love my husband most of all – my very own man. He is brilliant, sweet, fun, hilarious, generous, hardworking, faithful... and tall and handsome. Next, my son Bill, who is not a man, but will be someday. After that my two fantastic brothers, Tom and Andy. (Hi, guys!)

Following that, I will admit that there are certain musicians that I could listen to or watch forever: (in no particular order) Neil Young, Tom Petty, Eddie Vedder, Bono, Bryan Ferry, Pete Townshend, Paul Weller, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Buddy Miller, Brad Roberts from Crash Test Dummies, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, David Rawlings, Dexter Romweber, John Cowan, Jack White, Peter Buck, Robert Plant... I would pick a male singer over a female singer any day of the week.

And certain actors really fill the screen for me: Colin Firth, Johnny Depp, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Kenneth Branagh, Louis CK, Kris Kristopherson, Billy Cruddup, Gary Oldman, Clive Owen, Ewan McGregor, David Tennant...

It’s not that I don’t like women – they’re fine. I AM a woman and I have a lot of great friends who are also women. I admire women, and pull for them to have equal rights and be treated well. But they don’t hold the same fascination for me as men.

And not just famous men... I have several good friends who are men, and really enjoy their company and their unique perspective, although it is hard to grasp, sometimes, what drives them.
Adam and Eve

There’s really no system to who gets on my list or why. You may notice that it does not necessarily have to do with physical atractiveness, although, that is part of it sometimes. I am not sure what it has to do with... maybe it’s “daddy issues”... or because I never had many boyfriends or anything, so guys are like a holy grail to me...

Or maybe it’s not just me. Maybe it’s a product of the fall... Part of the enmity between man and woman that began when we lost our innocence. It causes me to put them on a pedestal and them to ignore me, as God told Eve: “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” Of course, if I looked like a supermodel, I might see this in a totally different light!

Whatever the case, if you’re a man, and you’re reading this: You’re awesome!

  1. ...and some of us Men Who Love Women like to admire (from a respectful distance, 'course) the women that the musical men you mention have chosen as partners: eg, Peggy Young, Ali Hewson (Bono's wife), Julie Miller, Patti Scialfa, to name a handful.

And how about Robert Plant getting hitched recently to Patty Griffin?!? (Although I did have to wonder when I saw them singing together on the Band of Joy tour a few years ago.) Now *there's* a talented and attractive woman who's lived at least 4 decades. Props to her and Percy...
